24081 was 60 years old on 19th March although we have done much work on the loco we decided that the engine block needed some much needed TLC it was hoped that the loco would survive in service until our resident class 26 returned to service, this was not to be as water leaks on the transition bushes that sit between the cylinder head and engine block worsened.
To date all the exhaust/water pipework and six cylinder heads and 6 cylinder liners have been removed for cleaning and assessment with a view to replacing items where necessary.
We have allowed 2yrs for the work to be completed, however this could change.
