3rd June 2017.
24081 was 57 years old on 19th March although we have done much work on the loco little attention has been given to the locomotive bogies. Following the visit to the South Devon Railway in November 2016 it was decided to withdraw the loco from service.
The loco was lifted of its bogies using the GWR locomotive department lifting jacks during May. One bogie has been removed and the locomotive is temporily sat on our spare bogie whilst work to strip down the running bogie and replace worn items including springs (secondary and primary suspension, dampers) continues.
Over £5000 has been spent on obtaining new, purpose built springs, we anticipate further costs and the group would appreciate any donations towards the cost of this repair. Our bank account details are on our Home page.
The owners of 24081 would like to express our thanks to the SRPS for use of their Lifting brackets.
Progress and further updates will follow in due course.
